ABOUT US
Our Commitment to Choral Excellence and Accessibility
CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE was established on the fundamental principle that exceptional music education and performance opportunities should be accessible to everyone, regardless of prior experience or background. We operate as a non-profit organization focused entirely on nurturing vocal talent and instilling a profound appreciation for the diverse world of choral arts. Our overview is defined by a deep commitment to quality instruction, utilizing master teachers and professional conductors who bring decades of performance and pedagogical experience to every rehearsal and workshop. This dedication ensures that our curriculum is rigorous, relevant, and engaging, covering essential skills such as sight-reading, music theory, vocal technique, and performance etiquette. Furthermore, we maintain a warm, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere that recognizes the vulnerability inherent in singing, building confidence in our members through positive reinforcement and collaborative effort. We are not just a collection of choirs; we are a foundational resource for musical growth in our community, offering a professional pathway for serious musicians while simultaneously celebrating the therapeutic and social benefits that community singing provides to all participants.
OUR STORY
From a Shared Vision to a Thriving Choral Movement
The story of CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE began several years ago when a small collective of passionate local musicians and dedicated educators recognized a gap in the community’s access to high-quality, inclusive choral programs. Frustrated by the decline in school music budgets and the lack of opportunity for adults and children to sing together in a non-auditioned, yet musically serious, environment, they pooled their resources and expertise to launch the first community choir. The initial concept was simple: create a space where the joy of singing was paramount, but where members would also receive top-tier vocal and theoretical instruction. This core group, driven by a deep love for the communal power of music, started with just thirty members rehearsing in a borrowed church basement. Their commitment to meticulously planning repertoire, securing professional conductors, and establishing a financial model focused on accessibility quickly resonated, leading to sold-out first performances and a rapidly growing waiting list. This humble but ambitious beginning laid the foundation for the organization’s ethos: that musical excellence and genuine community spirit are not mutually exclusive but profoundly complementary forces.

WHAT WE DO
A Comprehensive Framework for Musical and Personal Development
CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE provides a comprehensive suite of programs designed to serve every stage of a singer’s development, structured around our core commitment to vocal artistry and community engagement. Our offerings begin with introductory youth choirs that focus on fundamental music concepts, ear training, and healthy vocal habits in a playful, low-pressure environment, fostering a love for singing from an early age. We then progress to intermediate and advanced ensembles that tackle more challenging and diverse repertoire, requiring greater musical literacy, sight-reading proficiency, and advanced vocal technique, all under the guidance of highly experienced conductors. Crucially, we operate robust, inclusive community choirs for adults where musical passion overrides professional background, providing a rewarding space for singers of all levels to create music together. The program is rounded out by regular specialized workshops covering topics like audition preparation, diction in various languages, and stage presence, ensuring a well-rounded musical education that prepares our members for performance excellence on any stage, in any genre.
OUR MISSION
The Guiding Light for Our Choral Arts Endeavor
Our mission is to nurture vocal talent and foster a profound, lifelong love for the choral arts, building a vibrant and supportive community where singers of all levels can achieve musical excellence and personal growth. We fulfill this mission by providing high-caliber, engaging programs that include accessible community choirs and rigorous, specialized workshops led by experienced instructors and professional musicians dedicated to the craft. Our commitment is twofold: first, to the individual singer, ensuring they receive the personalized attention and technical instruction necessary to unlock their unique vocal potential, mastering elements like breath control, intonation, and sight-reading proficiency. Second, we are committed to the community, using the collective power of performance to bring people together, enrich the local cultural landscape, and demonstrate the unifying impact of beautiful music. Every decision we make, from repertoire selection to program scheduling, is aligned with this mission to create an enriching, supportive environment where the pursuit of musical quality is a shared, joyful, and deeply human endeavor that strengthens both the artist and the audience.
Vision: A Community Transformed Through Song
Our long-term vision is to establish CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE as the foremost regional center for choral arts, recognized nationally for its standards of musical excellence, innovation in performance, and unparalleled commitment to community inclusivity. We see a future where our organization is not just an extracurricular activity but a central cultural pillar, serving as a reliable partner to schools, arts organizations, and civic groups to promote musical literacy and participation across all demographic groups. This vision includes expanding our educational outreach to underserved communities, establishing a robust scholarship fund to ensure financial barriers are never an obstacle to participation, and commissioning new works from contemporary composers to contribute actively to the living history of choral music. Ultimately, our vision is a community where the sound of harmonious singing is a common, joyful, and defining characteristic of our cultural identity, demonstrating the transformative potential of the arts in promoting social cohesion, empathy, and collective well-being across all generations and walks of life.
Values: Excellence, Inclusion, and Joyful Collaboration
Our operational and artistic values are centered on three core principles: Excellence, Inclusion, and Joyful Collaboration. We hold ourselves to a standard of artistic excellence, meaning we strive for the highest possible quality in every performance, dedicating ourselves to precision, technical mastery, and profound musical interpretation, always utilizing master instructors and professional performance practices. This value is carefully balanced by our commitment to Inclusion, actively ensuring that our community choirs are open to singers of all experience levels and backgrounds, fostering a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where every voice has a place and is respected for its unique contribution. Finally, Joyful Collaboration underpins our entire educational approach, recognizing that the most beautiful and moving music is created when individuals connect authentically, support one another, and find deep personal satisfaction in working together toward a shared, harmonious goal, making the journey of learning as rewarding as the final performance itself.
Impact: Cultivating Confident Artists and Engaged Citizens
The positive impact of CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE is measured both qualitatively in the personal growth of our members and quantitatively in our contribution to the cultural wealth of the region. On an individual level, we cultivate confident artists by providing necessary stage experience and technical coaching that builds resilience, self-esteem, and public speaking skills that are transferable to all areas of life, transforming shy individuals into poised, expressive communicators. Collectively, our impact is seen in the consistent delivery of high-quality, memorable live performances and unique events that draw the community together, promoting shared civic experiences and enhancing the overall quality of life. Furthermore, our programs are structured to foster a sense of civic responsibility and teamwork, as singers learn the value of listening, balancing, and contributing to a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, thereby cultivating not just talented singers but highly engaged, empathetic, and collaborative citizens who understand the power of working together in harmony.

OUR WORK
The Three Pillars of the Choral Experience
Developing the Whole Person Through the Art and Discipline of Singing Together
Fostering Creativity and Discovery in a Low-Pressure Environment
At CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE, we recognize that true learning is unlocked when curiosity and creative exploration are encouraged, making Play & Exploration a vital component of our programming, particularly for our youth ensembles. This pillar involves introducing various vocal styles, from world music and folk songs to contemporary acapella arrangements, allowing singers to stretch their vocal identity and discover the vast diversity within the choral genre in a low-stakes environment. We incorporate improvisational exercises, musical games, and creative movement into rehearsals to help singers connect their bodies to the music and develop their stage presence and expressive capabilities in a fun and engaging way. This exploratory mindset encourages singers to take artistic risks, experiment with different vocal colors, and engage with the music through hands-on discovery rather than passive instruction, fostering a sense of ownership over the material. By balancing structured technical work with joyful exploration, we ensure that the pursuit of excellence remains a deeply satisfying and intrinsically motivated journey for all our members, keeping the sheer fun of singing at the heart of the experience.
Systematic Musical Literacy and Advanced Vocal Technique
Our dedication to Education & Learning forms the cornerstone of our work, providing singers with a systematic, professional approach to musical literacy that goes far beyond simple note-learning. We employ a carefully designed curriculum that emphasizes sight-reading proficiency, rhythm training, and music theory, ensuring that our members develop into independent musicians capable of tackling any piece of repertoire put before them. Our workshops, led by experienced instructors, focus intensely on the mechanics of vocal production, including breath support, resonant placement, and articulation, teaching singers how to maximize their vocal power and maintain vocal health over a lifetime of performance. We constantly integrate historical and cultural context into our teaching, helping singers understand the significance of the music they perform, transforming rote memorization into a profound act of interpretation and storytelling. By providing continuous, rigorous musical training, we equip our members with the enduring skills necessary not only for choral success but for a lifetime of artistic and intellectual engagement with music, making education a non-negotiable component of our mission.

Building Empathy, Confidence, and Lifelong Interpersonal Skills
The communal nature of choral singing makes Social & Emotional Development an inevitable and critical outcome of our work, providing a unique platform for building essential life skills. Being part of an ensemble requires profound listening, balance, and the ability to set aside one’s individual ego for the collective sound, naturally cultivating empathy and a strong sense of team responsibility among our members. Our supportive environment is designed to be a safe space where singers—especially children and teens—can overcome performance anxiety and build unshakeable self-confidence by successfully mastering challenging material and performing in front of audiences. Furthermore, the commitment to regular rehearsals and the shared goal of a successful performance instills discipline, time management skills, and resilience, teaching members how to persevere through difficulty. The friendships formed in our choirs often last a lifetime, demonstrating our success in fostering a deeply connected community that supports one another both musically and personally, making CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE a significant factor in the holistic maturation of its participants.

Programs/Services
Detailed Offerings for Every Age and Musical Stage
CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE is structured to provide continuous musical training across the lifespan, starting with our Junior Choir for children aged 6 to 9, where the focus is on playful musical concepts, foundational rhythm, and introductory vocalization in a nurturing group setting. Our Youth Chorale (ages 10-14) progresses to two- and three-part harmony, introducing basic sight-reading skills and diverse repertoire while building the necessary discipline for ensemble work. The Concert Choir (ages 15-18) is an advanced ensemble focused on mastering complex four-part harmonies, sophisticated musical theory, and performing demanding classical and contemporary works, serving as a pre-professional training ground. Finally, our Community Chorus is open to all adults aged 18 and up, regardless of their previous experience, providing a high-quality, inclusive environment for adults to enjoy making music together, often tackling major works with orchestral accompaniment, ensuring a fulfilling and enriching experience for singers at every stage of their life journey.
Community & Engagement
Building Bridges and Shared Experiences Through the Art of Song
We believe that a strong partnership between the organization and our families is essential for the sustained success and personal growth of our singers, which is why Family Involvement is central to our operational philosophy. Parents are considered valued partners in the musical journey, and we actively encourage participation through volunteer opportunities, assisting with concert logistics, costume management, and event organization, thereby helping to keep our programs running smoothly and affordably. We hold regular Parent Information Sessions that detail the curriculum, rehearsal expectations, and performance schedule, ensuring families are fully informed and can best support their child’s progress, often including brief demonstrations of the skills being taught. Furthermore, our community-friendly environment is designed to welcome the entire family; many parents choose to join the Adult Community Chorus, turning the CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE into a truly intergenerational activity where families can share their passion for music together, strengthening family bonds over a common artistic pursuit and making drop-off and pick-up times easier and more enriching for everyone involved in the process.

TESTIMONIAL
Voices of the CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE Family
Hearing directly from the parents about the transformative impact of our programs.
“Before joining CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE, my son Liam, who is in the Youth Chorale, was quite shy and reluctant to speak in front of people, even in class. Now, just two seasons in, the transformation is astonishing; he stands taller, speaks with more projection, and handles complex sight-reading passages with genuine confidence. What impresses me most is how the instructors, particularly Mr. Choi, not only improved his technique dramatically but also fostered a deep sense of belonging and responsibility to his ensemble peers. He doesn’t just sing the notes; he understands the history and context of the pieces, thanks to the incredibly rich curriculum. The difference in his overall academic confidence and social engagement is directly traceable to the supportive, yet highly disciplined, environment of this program. This organization is so much more than just a choir; it’s a powerful engine for holistic child development, and the professionalism of the final concert they produced was absolutely breathtaking.” — Sarah M., Parent of Liam (Youth Chorale, Age 12)
“Our entire family is involved now, with my daughter Maya in the Junior Choir and my husband joining the Community Chorus, which speaks volumes about the welcoming atmosphere here. When Maya started at age 7, she struggled with maintaining pitch, but the instructors approached it with such patient, playful methods, incorporating musical games and positive reinforcement, that she improved rapidly without ever feeling discouraged. I appreciate that they focus as much on teamwork and listening skills as they do on vocal placement; it truly teaches them how to be a valuable part of a larger whole. The staff, especially Ms. Chen, is incredibly organized and communicative, making the logistical side of being a choir parent seamless. Watching Maya beam with pride after her first performance, confidently singing a three-part round, confirmed that this is an invaluable investment in her artistic and emotional future. We feel like we’ve found a second family here.” — David K., Parent of Maya (Junior Choir, Age 8)
“As a former high school music teacher, I have a very high bar for youth choral programs, and CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE exceeds every expectation. My daughter, Chloe, is in the advanced Concert Choir, and the level of musical literacy and repertoire they tackle is truly collegiate-level, preparing her perfectly for her college auditions next year. Dr. Vance’s conducting is inspiring, and the focus on historical performance practice and linguistic diction ensures they are not just performing but interpreting the music authentically. Chloe has learned advanced concepts like counterpoint and complex rhythmic structures in a way that is engaging and meaningful. The commitment to using professional instrumentalists for accompaniment during rehearsals and concerts also elevates the entire experience, teaching them how to collaborate professionally. The rigorous yet deeply supportive community has helped her develop the poise and discipline she needs to succeed in any high-level musical endeavor. This is an unparalleled resource for serious young singers.” — Vanessa P., Parent of Chloe (Concert Choir, Age 16)
“I joined the Adult Community Chorus two years ago after a 30-year break from singing, and it has been the most fulfilling decision. I was initially intimidated, but the welcoming spirit and the commitment to all levels of experience immediately put me at ease; they genuinely mean it when they say all voices are welcome. What keeps me coming back is the high quality of instruction—Mr. Choi provides fantastic vocal warm-ups and tips that have actually improved my voice in my 50s, making singing easier and more resonant. We tackle challenging and beautiful pieces, but the sectional rehearsals ensure no one feels left behind. It’s a wonderful weekly reset, a place where professional anxieties melt away, replaced by the profound satisfaction of creating something beautiful with a diverse group of friendly people. It’s truly a community, and the musical results are consistently stunning. The CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE team does an exceptional job of blending professionalism with pure, accessible joy.” — Michael R., Community Chorus Member (Adult)

FAQ
Addressing Your Key Questions About Joining Our Community
Everything you need to know about enrollment, safety, curriculum, and engagement, summarized in detailed answers.
1. What is the process for enrollment, and what are the financial requirements for participation in your choirs?
The enrollment process begins with an online application available through our website, followed by an introductory meeting or a brief, low-pressure vocal placement session for all new youth members, which is purely to assess vocal range and place the singer in the most appropriate ensemble for their development, not an audition for entry into the program. Our community chorus for adults has open enrollment with no audition required, welcoming all levels of experience. Financially, we operate on a yearly tuition model, which covers all rehearsal materials, instruction, and performance costs; however, we are deeply committed to accessibility. We offer a robust, needs-based scholarship program for youth ensembles and flexible payment plans to ensure that financial barriers never prevent a passionate singer from joining our ranks. Details on tuition rates and the confidential scholarship application process are available on our website’s registration portal or by contacting our operations administrator directly via email.
2. How do you ensure the safety and security of children participating in the youth programs, especially during rehearsals and performances?
The safety and well-being of our young singers are our paramount concern, and we adhere to stringent safety protocols that govern all rehearsals, workshops, and performance activities. All CHORAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE staff, instructors, and regular volunteers who interact directly with minors undergo comprehensive background checks and mandatory safeguarding training to ensure a secure environment. We strictly enforce a two-adult policy in all rehearsal rooms and maintain clear sign-in and sign-out procedures for all children, requiring a designated parent or guardian signature at every session. For performances and special events, we ensure a high ratio of adult supervision, clearly define all boundaries and supervised areas, and provide detailed emergency contact protocols to all staff members. Furthermore, all our facilities meet local safety standards, and our rehearsal spaces are monitored to provide a secure and welcoming atmosphere where parents can feel completely confident in the care and supervision their children receive.
3. What specific curriculum methods do you use to teach music theory and sight-reading, and how quickly can a beginner expect to gain proficiency?
We employ a blended, research-backed curriculum that integrates the technical development of sight-reading and music theory directly into the practical application of rehearsal time, moving beyond traditional, dry classroom instruction. For sight-reading, we primarily use the movable ‘do’ solfege system and complement it with rhythmic counting and numeric systems, ensuring singers have multiple tools for decoding musical scores; this is often presented through engaging, short, daily exercises and musical games, especially in our younger choirs. The speed of proficiency is highly dependent on the individual’s commitment, but all beginners, even those with no prior experience, can typically achieve a basic level of sight-reading confidence within their first season, enabling them to navigate simple melodies independently. The curriculum’s progressive nature ensures continuous skill deepening, so an advanced singer in our Concert Choir will be tackling complex harmonic dictation and advanced theoretical analysis, building on the fundamentals they learned in the junior programs.
4. Are meals or snacks provided during the program, particularly for longer rehearsals or performance days, and what are the policies regarding food allergies?
While we do not typically provide regular meals or snacks during standard one-to-two-hour weekly rehearsals, we are highly attentive to the nutritional and energy needs of our singers during extended sessions, such as full-day retreats, dress rehearsals, or concert days. For these longer events, we ensure that nut-free snacks and water are provided, or we organize catering from established, reputable local vendors with clear protocols for dietary restrictions. Our policy regarding food allergies is extremely strict: we operate with an abundance of caution and are a nut-aware environment, requiring all parents to clearly communicate any and all allergies or dietary needs during registration, and we meticulously label all provided food and drinks. We kindly request that parents packing snacks for their children avoid common allergens and refrain from sharing food to maintain the safest possible environment for all our singers throughout all our activities.
5. What is the typical weekly rehearsal schedule for the different age groups, and how much time commitment is expected from the singers outside of scheduled rehearsal time?
The typical weekly commitment varies by age and ensemble level, but all rehearsals are scheduled in the early evenings to accommodate school and work schedules; for example, the Junior Choir usually meets once per week for 60-75 minutes, while the advanced Concert Choir meets for 90-120 minutes, plus an optional weekly sectional practice. Outside of scheduled rehearsal time, we expect a reasonable, consistent level of individual practice, particularly for higher-level ensembles, which generally involves at least 30-60 minutes per week dedicated to reviewing rehearsal notes, listening to reference recordings, and practicing specific vocal parts using materials provided on our secure member portal. This outside work is crucial for musical progress and ensuring that the collective rehearsal time is maximized for artistic refinement rather than basic note-learning, and we provide digital tools and learning tracks to make home practice manageable and effective for singers of all ages.
